French Ursuline nuns arrived in Louisiana in 1727 in order to establish the Ursuline Academy, but needed permission from the Pope to bring more teachers over. Mother Saint Michel prayed in front of the Virgin Mary for the Pope to receive her request. Her request was granted in 1809 and the school fully opened and became host to several miracles, attributed to the Virgin Mary.
